Manga Next reads the bookmarks inside one folder you choose (named Manga by default) and shows, for each series, the latest chapter available and when the next one is expected.
To look up release dates, the extension sends the series title (for example "Dungeon Odyssey") to two public, keyless services: Comick and MangaUpdates. Nothing else is sent: not your bookmark URLs, not your browsing history, not any identifier for you.
Series cover images shown in the popup are loaded from Comick's image server (meo.comick.pictures) or MangaUpdates, like any image on a web page; no referrer is sent. Suggestions are computed locally from the recommendation lists those databases attach to each series.
Results, settings, and the bin of removed bookmarks are stored locally in your browser using Chrome's extension storage. Settings may sync between your own Chrome profiles through Chrome Sync. Nothing is stored on any server operated by the developer.
If no folder with the chosen name exists, the extension looks for a folder that already holds chapter bookmarks under another name and offers to use it; only when none fits does it create an empty folder in your bookmarks bar. If the auto-cleanup setting is on (default), when you bookmark a newer chapter of a series the older bookmark of that series in the folder is deleted. Deleted bookmarks are kept in the extension's bin for 60 days so they can be restored. The extension never changes bookmarks outside the chosen folder.
